Many will come Matthew 24

What does it mean "on the basis of my name"?

And saying

"I am the christ"?

What was he warning us as he prefaced these words with "watch out for deception".  Whether it means watch out You do not lead a person with deception or watch out you be not led by deception, it doesn't matter any more.  The hour is late.  What is done is done.

On the basis of someone's name means representing that one whose name one comes in.

I am the christ means Jesus.  He was talking about himself.  And he is Christ.  But his ministry as Christ came to an end with his death.  He is alive in spirit but only to believers.

He meant christ with the meaning of the root which is "to furnish what is needed".   Are not people who say they are believers saying "he will save us"?  They expect him to furnish what is needed in the future.  But he has furnished what is needed in the past.  And people have NOT believed.  They were misled.  They did not take note that Earth is to reap what is sown.  Christ was and is a warning about that which You sow or don't sow.

Strong's Greek 5530

Middle voice of a primary verb (perhaps rather from cheir, to handle); to furnish what is needed; (give an oracle, "graze" (touch slightly), light upon, etc.), i.e. (by implication) to employ or (by extension) to act towards one in a given manner -- entreat, use. Compare chraochre
