Hands or hands?

Revelation 7:9

The vision is of a great crowd.  "In their hands" are palm branches.  They say "salvation to the one" sitting on the throne.  The New World Translation of the Scriptures says "Salvation we owe".

It is assumed that it is a prophesy about survivors of the end of the world prediction.  They "come out" of the great tribulation which is believed to be the cause of the end of the world which is the beginning of God's new heavens and earth.  So they are believed to be citizens of God's new earth.

I looked up which form of speach is "hands".  It appears the writer did not see a palm branch in each one's hand but in each one's both hands.

Their hands, which are for helping, are busy  holding palm branches.

Why did the writer use the form of the word that means both hands?

χερσὶν
with unwashed hands does not defile Matthew 15:20
with impure hands, that is, unwashed. Mark 7:2
their bread with impure hands? Mark 7:5
them; they will lay hands on the sick, Mark 16:18
rubbing them in their hands, and eating Luke 6:1
I see in His hands the imprint John 20:25
with our own hands; when we are reviled, 1 Corinthians 4:12
with his own hands what is good, Ephesians 4:28
business and work with your hands, just 1 Thessalonians 4:11
