....only when you know the person you are associating with is bad?
Jehovah's Witnesses say it is true that if you associate with bad people your good habits will be spoiled. I do not know if they have ever defined "good habits". Some Bibles say good morals, good manners, good character, pleasent minds, decent people, and finally, will lead to evil ends. The Internation Standard Version says it most cleverly. "Stop being deceived. 'Wicked friends lead to evil ends.'"
Was it Jesus who said to beware of wolf in sheep's clothing? A person who is a wolf in sheep's clothing is evil inside, thus a bad association, but good outside, thus a good association.
If I am fooled for awhile and associate with a wolf in sheep's clothing, does it cause a spoiling of my manners? Why or why not?
So it seems the answer is yes, a bad association will cause spoilage only when you are aware of a bad association's badness.
If that is true, then the command is not really from Jehovah who sees the inside of men.
Right?
What is wrong with going about with the intention of knowing bad associations from good ones? It is judging. And one must always be on the lookout for people to avoid.
What if the bad association is yourself? How do you know you are not bad? Jesus said no one is good. So there you have it! You are spoiled.
